WEYMOUTH, England - College of Charleston senior sailor Juan Maegli (Guatemala City, Guatemala) turned in back-to-back top 10 finishes in Races 7 and 8 on Friday to remain in medal contention in the Men's Laser Class event at the 2012 London Olympic Games.
With two more races remaining before the medal race, the two-time Olympian is currently 13 points out of bronze as he is tied with fourth-place Rasmus Myrgren of Sweden with 73 points. World No. 1 Tom Slingsby regained the top spot on the latest standings with 38 points followed by Pavlos Kontides of Cypress (40 points) in second and Tonci Stipanovic of Croatia (60 points) in third.
Maegli, who placed a career-best fourth at the laser sailing world championships this past May in Boltenhagen, Germany, has sailed consistently throughout the competition with top 10 finishes in 6 out of the 8 races thus far.
