CHARLESTON, S.C. - Junior pitcher David Peterson (Walnut Creek, Calif.) and freshman rider Kenzie Russell (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) were named College of Charleston Student-Athletes of the Week sponsored by Piggly Wiggly for the week of May 9.

Peterson tossed eight innings with five strikeouts in the CofC baseball team's 6-5 walk-off victory over UNC Greensboro on May 7. Peterson threw one of his stronger performances of the year, despite allowing five runs - one earned - on nine hits with the Cougar defense committing two errors with two outs in the eighth. On the season, the right-hander boasts a 5-4 record with a 4.56 ERA in 12 starts.

Russell rode to victory at the IHSA National Championship Horse Show held on May 5 at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Ky., giving the CofC equestrian team a national champion for the second consecutive year. She won the Individual Walk Trot Canter class and was awarded the perpetual John Conyers Memorial Trophy. Russell had a perfect draw as well as flawless ring management during her national-championship ride.
