CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston women's tennis team capped yet another record-setting season ranked a program-best No. 5 in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Carolina Region rankings.
The Cougars were previously ranked No. 8 at the conclusion of the 2010-11 campaign. They rounded out the top 5 in one of the nation's toughest regions consisting of Division I schools in the states of North Carolina and South Carolina behind No. 3 nationally-ranked Duke, No. 8 North Carolina, No. 13 South Carolina and No. 25 Clemson. CofC was ranked No. 63 in the final ITA national rankings and captured its fourth-consecutive Southern Conference title and NCAA Tournament berth.
"I'm really proud of the team and their accomplishments on-and-off the court this past year," CofC Director of Tennis Angelo Anastopoulo said. "We set several school records including most victories in a season (25), first-ever undefeated home season (17-0) and highest national ranking (No. 60). We look forward to defending our SoCon title next season returning the majority of our squad in 2012-13."
