CHARLESTON, S.C. - Senior sailor Zeke Horowitz (Sarasota, Fla.) and sophomore distance runner Dena O'Brien (Pelham, Ala.) garnered College of Charleston Student-Athlete of the Week honors sponsored by Piggly Wiggly for the week of Oct. 3.
Horowitz won the SAISA Men's Singlehanded Championship hosted by Jacksonville University on Oct. 1 in Jacksonville, Fla. He earned his second-ever berth to the ICSA Singlehanded Nationals to be hosted by Northwestern University on Nov. 4-6 in Chicago. Horowitz finished in the top 5 in eight of the 10 races including three first-place finishes. He claimed a 32-point victory over the field of 16 including top sailors from South Florida, Miami (Fla.), Eckerd College, Emory and Embry-Riddle.
O'Brien finished fourth at the 36-team Charlotte Invitational and set a new CofC women's cross country school record with a time of 17 minutes, 11.75 seconds in the 5K on Sept. 30 in Charlotte, N.C.
