CHARLESTON, S.C. - College of Charleston (6-1) returns home to play its second straight home weekend series and open the Southern Conference slate with a three-game set against Elon (5-3). Games are slated for Friday night at 6 p.m., Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Cougars are now 6-1 after an exciting shutout win over Jacksonville on Tuesday, 7-0. College of Charleston took a perfect game into the ninth inning before a slow infield single broke it up. Senior Ryan West picked up the win in his first career start by going six innings with no runs or hits and striking out five batters.
Redshirt-sophomore Daniel Aldrich belted his second home run of the season, a three-run blast to center at the top of the ninth to add some insurance runs. Senior Marty Gantt had two hits and two runs to extend his team-leading run total to 13, while he also leads the squad in batting average with .481.
This weekend's probable starters are as follows:

Last season, the two teams split the four meetings with College of Charleston earning a 4-3 win over the Phoenix in the SoCon Tournament and eliminating Elon who had won the league's regular season title.
SCOUTING THE PHOENIX
Elon enters the weekend set after a 6-3 win over High Point in extra innings on Wednesday night. The Phoenix also have wins over George Mason, Akron and N.C. A&T, but were swept last weekend by the defending national champion South Carolina Gamecocks.
Elon was picked to finish third by the media and fourth by the coaches in the preseason polls, after the Phoenix won the regular season league title in 2011. Junior catcher Alex Swim and sophomore infielder Sebastian Gomez were both named preseason All-SoCon second team.
Elon is currently last in the league with a batting average of .215, but the Phoenix lead the SoCon in stolen bases (14). Elon's team ERA of 2.28 ranks fourth, while opponents are batting just .179 against Phoenix pitching, a mark that ranks third in the SoCon.
COUGARS RANKED 30TH BY COLLEGIATE BASEBALL
The College of Charleston remained in the rankings in week two despite losing a game to Rhode Island. The Cougars were picked 30th in the Collegiate Baseball poll.
The Cougars were ranked 29th in the poll last week.
COFC IN THE SOCON RANKINGS
The Cougars currently lead the league in pitching with a team ERA of 1.18 and an opposing batting average of just .148. Six wins is also second behind only UNCG.

Sophomore All-American Daniel Aldrich currently sits fifth in the conference with a slugging percentage of .800. Aldrich has hit two home runs and two triples this season.
On February 28, the Cougars took a perfect game into the ninth inning before Jacksonville broke it up with an infield single. Ryan West pitched 6.0 perfect innings, while Kyle Owings and Dre Watts each pitched one.
This season, the Cougars have flirted with no-hitters on a number of occasions. Christian Powell started 4.1 innings (in a seven-inning game) without a hit against South Alabama, while Matt Pegler held Xavier without a hit for 7.1 innings.
The only no-hitter in school history came in 2004 against Western Carolina.
