CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston men's golf team will depart today for Austin, Texas, as they will compete in the Morris Williams Intercollegiate, March 16-17, hosted by Texas at the University of Texas Golf Club.

The tournament, held annually in memory of former University of Texas golf star Morris Williams, Jr., who died in a plane crash while serving in the Air Force in 1953 is in its 46th year.

Last year Texas won the tournament with a score of 892 (+40) and Tom Hodge from TCU was the individual medalist with a score of 215 (+2).

The 2012 field includes: College of Charleston, New Mexico, North Texas, Sam Houston State, St. John's, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Texas-Arlington, Utah, Wake Forest.

The Cougars will play a practice round on Thursday and open the tournament with the first two rounds, 36 holes, on Friday March 16. Saturday will conclude the tournament with a 18-hole final round.

Live scoring for the tournament will be available via golfstat.com

"This will be a challenge for our guys on a difficult golf course, but it's a challenge I think they will handle very well," CofC Head Coach Mark McEntire said.
