SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Cougar outfielder Daniel Aldrich has been named the Southern Conference Co-Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.
Aldrich helped the Cougars (31-13, 19-8) to a 2-1 weekend, taking the series over Western Carolina. The preseason first team All-American had a career game on Friday, hitting three home runs and driving in all five Cougar runs in the 5-4 victory. Aldrich's eighth-inning two-run homer broke a tie game and proved to be the eventual game-winner.
Aldrich finished the week batting .500 (4-for-8) to go along with four walks for an on-base percentage of .667 and a slugging percentage of 1.625.
The weekly award was the first for Aldrich this season and the third weekly honor for Cougar hitters as Brandon Murray was selected on March 26 and Bradley Goodson was picked on April 16.
The Southern Conference selected Samford's Saxon Butler as the other Co-Player of the Week while Elon's Spencer Medick earned Pitcher of the Week honors.
The Cougars will travel to Clemson for a non-conference weekend series starting next Saturday, May 5 at 6:30 p.m.
