CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's soccer team took advantage of the early signing period on Wednesday, making three additions to its 2018 roster.
Charlie Marino – 5'10" – Forward
Charleston, S.C. – Wando HS
A local product, 5'10" forward Charlie Marino crosses the Ravenel Bridge from 5A institution Wando High School to join the College of Charleston. The Warriors posted an absolutely dominant 52-2 overall record during his sophomore and junior years, as Marino led the team in scoring with 20 and 29 goal seasons en route to two South Carolina Player of the Year nods. Marino was recognized by Sports Illustrated as a player to watch, and was named the Palmetto Cup MVP. The Warriors claimed a state championship last season behind Marino's brilliant play, and his club team won a state championship in 2016. A sterling student with a GPA above a 4.0, Marino was also pursued by UNCG, Wofford, Boston University, Georgia Southern and Amherst.
Andrew Robinson – 6'0" – Midfield
Wrightsville Beach, N.C. – J.T. Hoggard HS
Six-foot forward Andrew Robinson joins the Cougars after a successful stint at 4A institution J.T. Hoggard High School in Wilmington, N.C. The Vikings round great success during Robinson's time with the team, compiling a 59-24-6 record in that span which included two deep playoff runs in his Sophomore and Senior seasons. The Wrightsville Beach native was named his team's offensive player of the year as a junior, and earned All-State, All-Region, All-Conference and multiple All-Area recognitions. During his senior season, Robinson compiled 20 goals and 22 assists, the latter of which ranked second in the state. A wiz in the classroom with a 4.7 GPA, Robinson was also courted by the likes of High Point and Appalachian State.
Cameron Smith – 5'10" - Goalkeeper
Lexington, S.C. – Lexington HS
Cameron Smith comes to the Cougars as a 5'10" goalkeeper from 5A institution Lexington High School. Smith manned the pipes for the Wildcats, helping the club reach a 27-21-2 clip during his sophomore and junior seasons. A two-time All-Region recipient and a 2017 All-State honoree, Smith's career including an 18-save effort against Blythewood in 2015, and he recorded 281 saves, 16 shutouts and even scored eight goals in his time with the team. A standout in the classroom with a 4.06 GPA, Smith was also recruited by the likes of USC Upstate, Lander, Newberry and Chowan.
