No. 8/8 Louisville Too Much in Cougars’ 86-58 Defeat

LOUISVILLE, KY. – The No. 8/8 Louisville Cardinals (10-2) proved to be too big an obstacle Friday night at the KFC Yum! Center, as the College of Charleston women's basketball team went down early and succumbed 86-58.

• Louisville seized a 23-8 lead after the first quarter, and went to the locker room with a comfortable 49-19 advantage. The College had a particularly difficult time preventing turnovers, as UofL were the beneficiaries of 18 first-half give-aways. The Cougars were decidedly more careful with the ball in the second half and actually outscored Louisville in that time, but the deficit was too severe to overcome.

• Redshirt junior Bri Boyd made her College of Charleston debut, coming off the bench to lead the Cougars in points (14), rebounds (10), blocks (2) and steals (2) in 19 minutes of action. The native of Ridgeville S.C. was particularly effective on putback attempts, as eight of her ten boards came on the offensive glass. Boyd becomes the third Cougar along with Tanisha Brown and Breanna Bolden to record a double-double on the season. The Cougars have now recorded a double-double in every single game of the year.

Darien Huff made the most of her return to her home state, recording a game-high 33 minutes and joining Boyd as the only other Cougar in double-figures, scoring 11 points on 4 of 7 shooting from the field and 3 of 5 from long range.

• Asia Durr led Louisville in scoring with 20 points, while Myisha Hines-Allen tallied a 14-12 double-double, adding three steals. As a team, the difference in the game came inside, where Louisville out-rebounded the Cougars 61-44 and scored 35 points in the paint to CofC's 13.

The Cougars will have a day to regroup before continuing the Kentucky road trip on Sunday. They'll face the Western Kentucky Lady Toppers (6-4) in Bowling Green at 3 p.m. EST.
