Coastal Slips by Cougars in Waning Minutes

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's basketball team (2-8) played a tight game with Coastal Carolina (5-5) that was tied in the closing moments, but CCU managed to pull away late for the 79-72 win.

• The game sported 12 lead changes in all, as the Cougars and Chanticleers engaged in a dog-fight all through the contest. Things were all knotted up at 67-67 late, until a three from Kennedy Archer sparked the eventual CCU run that would seal the game, as the Chanticleers outscored the College 12-5 in the final 1:49.

Breanna Bolden had arguably the best half of basketball of her career, tallying up 20 points by halftime on 10 of 14 shooting. She finished with 24 points, six rebounds and four steals, passing CofC Hall-of-Famer Scooter DeLorne (1975-78) as well as Jade Hughes (2005-10) to become 13th on the CofC All-Time scoring list with 1300 career points.

Darien Huff sunk a buzzer-beater three to close out the first half, finishing the game with 12 points. Shiclasia Brown matched career-highs with both 14 points and six boards, while Dajah Logan established a career-best 11 rebounds, nearly notching a double-double with nine points.

However, Coastal Carolina managed to earn 14 more free throw attempts than the Cougars, which accounted for 21 of their points. On an individual level, Naheria Hamilton logged a double-double with a 17-11.

"We didn't focus enough on getting stops tonight," head coach Candice M. Jackson said. "We put them on the foul line too many times, and we relied too much on jump shots. We did outrebound them, but when you live and die by the J, sometimes you die."

The Cougars will return to action Thursday when the hit the road for a cross-town rivalry game with Charleston Southern at 2 p.m.
