RICHMOND, Va. – For the third time of her storied four-year career at the College of Charleston, senior Laura Fuenfstueck (Langen, Germany) was named Colonial Athletic Association Women's Golfer of the Year as voted upon by the league's eight head coaches and announced on Wednesday.
She becomes only the second player in league history to earn three CAA Women's Golfer of the Year honors next to Georgia State's Charlotte Lorentzen, who received three-straight awards from 2010-12. The league's top-ranked player, Fuenfstueck was the runner-up at the 2017 CAA Championship finishing one stroke off the lead with a 1-over par 217 with rounds of 71, 74 and 72 to garner a spot on the CAA All-Tournament Team.
She currently leads the CAA with a 72.47 scoring average over 32 rounds and finished in the Top-10 in eight of the 11 tournaments in which she played including two regular-season tournament wins. She was named CAA Golfer of the Week four times this season and 14 times over the course of her career.
Fuenfstueck is the school-record holder in career tournament wins (5), single-season scoring average (72.47), single-season birdies made (91), career scoring average (73.42) and career finishing percentage (84.6%).
Delaware's Ariane Klotz was tabbed CAA Rookie of the Year and Delaware's Patty Post CAA Coach of the Year.
Joining Fuenfstueck on the CAA Postseason Awards list was junior Josefine Garton (Linkoping, Sweden), who was named to the All-CAA Second Team, and senior Vici Drechsler (Munich, Germany) on the CAA All-Academic Team.
Garton, a junior college transfer and JUCO All-American, tied for fourth in her first appearance at the CAA Championship and was honored on the CAA All-Tournament Team. Drechsler, a finance major at The College, played in 34 career tournaments during her four-year career with the Cougars.
