MT. PLEASANT, S.C. - The College of Charleston softball team dropped 5-4 decision to Ohio State Wednesday afternoon.
The Buckeyes struck first early, adding a run in each of the first two innings.
Mia Dittoe and Mary-Kathryn Scott both singled in the second frame to help load the bases, followed by an Audri Bates double that drove in all three runners to give the Cougars a 3-2 edge. Ohio State responded with a three-run inning of its own in the top of the fourth.
Scott doubled in the fifth frame and a Buckeye throwing error allowed her to score the fourth run for the Cougars.
Mia Dittoe singled for her second hit of the day, but the Ohio State pitcher went on to retire the last four Cougar batters, preventing the game-tying run.
