
Women's Basketball Sets Program Records in Rout of Covenant

CHARLESTON S.C. – The College of Charleston women's basketball team (1-0) opened the 2025-26 season by setting a program record with 135 points in a 135-41 rout over Covenant College (0-1) at TD Arena Monday evening.

- The Barbot twins got the scoring going as Taylor Barbot and Taryn Barbot began the game with back-to-back jumpers before Sophia Tougas went on her own 8-0 run as Charleston jumped out to a 31-0 lead and held a 39-4 advantage after the first stanza.
- The Cougars matched their first quarter scoring output in the second, tallying another 39 points as CofC led Covenant 78-19 at the break.
- Charleston continued to put its foot on the gas pedal, outscoring Covenant 57-22 in the final 20 minutes en route to a 135-41 win to open the 2025-26 campaign.
- Junior Taryn Barbot led all players with 32 points, going 14-for-17 from the field and 3-for-5 from beyond the arc. Barbot amassed 25 points for the 10th time as a Cougar and reached the 30-point mark for the seventh time in her career.
- Sophomore Leah Philpotts tallied a career-high 15 points on a 60% clip from the field.
- Redshirt senior Sophia Tougas also went 3-for-5 from deep as she posted 14 points.
- Junior Grace Ezebilo grabbed 11 boards to go along with eight points.
- Junior Taylor Barbot dished out nine assists and collected her 200th career assist as she connected with her twin in the first quarter.
- Junior Tyja Beans had a game and career-high six steals.
- Charleston's 135 points are the most in program history.
- The Cougars 39 points in the first and second quarters are tied for the most ever in a quarter in school history (Q3 vs Meredith 11/4/24).
- Charleston's 78 points in the first 20 minutes are the most ever in a half.
- Since moving to quarters in 2015-16, this is the first time that CofC has scored 30 points in three straight quarters.
- CofC's 51 field goals made ties the program record.
- Monday evening was the 9th instance since 1991 that the Cougars have scored 100 points in a game.
- The 94-point margin of victory is second largest in school history.
- The Scots 11 field goals is tied for the fifth fewest by an opponent in program history.
- Seven players made their Cougar debuts tonight as Tyja Beans, Camila De Pool, Grace Ezebilo, Danielle McTeer, Chynell Mitchell, Anilys Rolon and Alana Philpotts all saw action in a Charleston jersey Monday evening.
- Alana Philpotts and Anilys Rolon made their collegiate debuts.
- The seven newcomers combined for 55 points on the night.
- "Tonight was a great start to the season," head coach Robin Harmony said. "We shot well from the field and from the line. We'll look at film later this week and get ready for Charleston Southern on Friday. With Friday being Education Day and an 11 a.m. tip, the place will be rocking, and we're excited to play in front of a packed house."
- Charleston will return to action Friday, November 7 with a home matchup against Charleston Southern inside TD Arena at 11 a.m.
